University of the Arts London (UAL) is home to a diverse community of students from over 130 countries across the globe. One of UAL’s greatest assets is our global alumni network that is made up of a vibrant community of creators and innovators. We are immensely proud of our graduates who have gone on to enrich the countries around world with their energy, imagination and creativity.
Our Hong Kong alumni network is ever increasing. This is in no doubt thanks to the support of the UAL Hong Kong Alumni Association which provides a professional and social network for our graduates to meet and work together. We rely on dedicated alumni volunteers across the world to help us form supportive and collaborative communities such as the one we have in Hong Kong. I want to thank the Hong Kong Alumni Association for establishing a community eager to share and encourage each other.
We are grateful for your friendship and support. On behalf of UAL, I wish you an enjoyable evening.
May I offer my sincere congratulations to all those at the London Ball Foundation involved in organising and supporting the London Ball 2024. It is inspiring to see such a strong platform of British-educated graduates dedicated to making a difference for the current and future generations of Hong Kong.
Through the ‘My Dream’ programme, the Education Summit and the range of volunteer activities the Foundation supports, the London Ball Foundation is making a real impact in Hong Kong society – today and for the future. The work the Foundation does in partnership with local non-profit-making organisations makes a daily difference to the local community across a broad spectrum of issues. And is helping the next generation of Hong Kong talent realise their full potential, equipping them to play their role as truly global citizens.
It is, therefore, a particular pleasure for me to join the London Ball this year and to shine a light on the achievements, accomplishments and contributions of this inspiring group of Alumni: and a honour to be able to present the Outstanding Alumni Award. I look forward to celebrating their talent and wish the London Ball Foundation every success as it goes from strength to strength.
The London Ball 2024 is a memorable occasion where more than 400 alumni and guess will celebrate their historical relationship with London, especially with the great London universities. The occasion holds a special place in our hearts as it pays homage to the original "London University," established nearly 200 years ago by a distinguished group of friends and admirers of the great philosopher, Jeremy Bentham. Their noble vision to promote diversity, equality and innovation remains as relevant as ever in today's society.
Tonight's fund-raising dinner is also very meaningful as it aims to support the My Dream Program, which empowers young individuals to recognize their talents and pursue their dreams. I would also extend my warmest congratulations to the recipients of the Outstanding Alumni Awards - they are being recognized for their professional excellence and significant contribution to civil society.
Finally let me express my deep appreciation for the success of the recently concluded Education Summit. The wonderful efforts of all involved in organizing the Summit, led by Foundation Chairlady Sandy Lau and her Committee, are very commendable.
I wish you a most enjoyable evening.
I am very much looking forward to participating in the Education Summit and London Ball. It will be an opportunity not only to spend time thinking about some of the most pressing issues of our time, but also to celebrate the friendship between the great cities of Hong Kong and London and between the alumni of our great universities.
