The Theme

The theme for the London Ball 2022 is Empowering A Healthy Future. We are living in very challenging times, when health and education are among the topmost concerns of governments, universities, and non-governmental organisations. As benefactors of a British education with a deep connection to the local community, the Hong Kong alumni associations of Imperial College London, London School of Economics, University Arts London, Kings’ College London and London Business School have taken this opportunity to come together to organise, for the first time, an event to raise funds in support of charitable causes of associated Universities, and a food programme run by Oxfam to help local low-income families survive and navigate through this difficult time.

To many of us, our passion and drive, which ultimately put us on a lifelong career path and the becoming of global citizens, began during university times. The value of our academic pursuits did not end with graduation and couple lines of text on the curriculum vitae. It also created a community of capable and helpful people that shares the same values. Together, we formed alumni associations where we feel we belong. It is this belongingness that propelled us to host the first ever London Ball, bringing together engineers, entrepreneurs, artists and professionals from all fields alike to enjoy an exquisite night of friendly exchanges for a charitable cause!

Sandy Lau

To me, the alumni association stands for friendship and comradery. Having chaired the Wai Yin Association 35th and 36th Anniversary Charity Ball, which sought to bring positive energy to the society and empower youths for a brighter future, I can draw many meaningful parallels with the London Ball. The uniting of a group of distinguished and honored guests under a charitable cause is what motivates our committee team. Beside providing an enjoyable evening for our alumnus, we want to provoke meaningful engagement between members of different alumni associations, and inspire compassion through our charity cause to all.
