Speaker's Biography

Dr. Ko Wing-man GBS JP
Dr. Ko is currently Specialist in Orthopaedics and Traumatology in private practice. He is Standing Committee member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Standing Committee member of the Chao Zhou City Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Non-official member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong SAR. Dr. Ko is also Council member of the UNICEF Hong Kong Committee, Vice-chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organizations, Vice-President of the Hong Kong China Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Ko had been the Secretary for Food and Health of the 4 th term Hong Kong SAR Government, the President/Chairman of Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society and Director of the Hong Kong Red Cross. Dr. Ko was awarded the Golden Bauhinia Star by Hong Kong SAR Government in 2017.

Professor Sophia CHAN
Professor Sophia Chan is currently Professor in Nursing and Senior Advisor to the President’s Office at the University of Hong Kong. Professor Chan was appointed by the HK SAR Government to be Under Secretary for Food and Health (USFH) from 2012-2017, and Secretary for Food and Health (SFH) from 2017-2022. She was the first nurse in Hong Kong appointed in this ministerial position. She has led the Food and Health (FHB) in making remarkable contribution in the formulation and implementation of various major policies on health, food and environmental hygiene and agriculture and fisheries. During her tenure as SFH, not only has she been fighting the COVID-19 pandemic over 2.5 years, she has also made exemplary efforts and policy initiatives in protecting and promoting the health of the population through major policy initiatives such as embarking on a new journey in primary health care by developing District Health Centres (DHCs) in all 18 districts in Hong Kong, laying a strong foundation of developing the first Chinese Medicine Hospital, opening the first Children Hospital, and launched the Hong Kong Cancer Strategy 2019, and banned E-cigarettes and Heated Tobacco Products in Hong Kong, just to name a few.
Before the Government appointment, Professor Chan was the Head of Department of Nursing Studies/School of Nursing of HKU from 2002 to 2011 and an Assistant Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of HKU from 2001 to 2012. Professor Chan was trained in and practised general and paediatric nursing in Hong Kong and London. She got her Master of Education from the University of Manchester, Master of Public Health from the Harvard University School of Public Health, and her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Hong Kong.
Professor Chan is one of the leading Nurse Scientists locally and internationally and was named among the world’s top 2% most cited scientists in her specialty areas by Stanford University in 2020. Her research specialises in public health, management of tobacco dependency, prevention of second-hand smoke exposure in children, and primary health care system development. She has always been the top-funded researcher in HKU School of Nursing and has led many external competitive grants including GRF, HMRF, and commissioned grants from the Government, Hong Kong Jockey Club and key foundations and organisations locally and internationally. She is a pioneer and founding directors of a number of signature research and training programmes in tobacco dependency therapeutic interventions, and her findings has transformed smoking cessation services and tobacco control policies. She developed various novel smoking cessation models through individual and clustered randomised controlled trials and compare ethno-cultural differences between Chinese and other smokers through epidemiological and social science methodologies. She proposes novel scientific insights, and has published extensively with over 240 peer-reviewed scientific papers with more than 3,800 citations. Since her return to HKU in July 2022, she has already obtained three donations to fund community-based research projects in healthy ageing, primary health care, and protecting children from second-hand smoke (SHS) exposure. She serves as Director and Principal Investigator of the Generations Connect Project, the HKU Primary Health Care Academy, and a research project on protecting underprivileged children from exposure to SHS.
Professor Chan’s pedagogy has been recognised by the award of Best Teacher 1996, Faculty Teaching Medal in 2005 and Outstanding Teaching Award in 2009, one of the highest honour for teaching achievements conferred by HKU. She consults widely nationally and internationally and has represented the University and the Food and Health Bureau of the HKSAR Government in international meetings and invited by the World Health Organization to provide professional advice and leadership on their public health and tobacco control initiatives. She also serves on global advisory boards in nursing leadership. She was awarded a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health (through distinction) and Honorary Fellow, Royal College of Physicians of United Kingdom (FFPH (RCP)(UK)) and was the first nurse in Hong Kong being awarded the Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).

Professor SIT Wing Hang Alfred GBS, JP
Professor Alfred Sit Wing-hang joined the Government in 1984 and was promoted to the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services and General Manager of Electrical and Mechanical Services Trading Fund in 2017, responsible for electrical and mechanical safety as well as energy efficiency and conservation in Hong Kong and provision of engineering services to the electrical and mechanical assets of the Hong Kong SAR government with an annul turnover of more than HK $ 8 billion, concurrently to help leverage innovation and technology ( I & T) development in Hong Kong and nurture smart and green city initiatives. Prof Sit was appointed the Secretary for Innovation and Technology during the period April 2020 to June 2022. He was responsible for reporting to the President Xi Jinping of the I & T development of Hong Kong when President Xi visited Hong Kong in 2022. He was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government to recognize his distinguished services to the community and he is now a Justice of Peace.
Prof Sit is now the Chief Executive and Secretary of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and is also a Senior Advisor to the President and Vice -Chancellor of the Hong Kong Baptist University, Advisor of the Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research of the Hong Kong Baptist University, honorary Professor and Adjunct Professor of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Baptist University of Hong Kong.
Prof Sit is an electrical engineer by profession and has over 40 years’ experience in public administration. He is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. He was the President of the Hong Kong Institution of Facility Management, Chairman of the Biomedical Division and Secretary of the Nuclear Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
Prof Sit is recognized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as its Outstanding Alumni. Prof Sit also holds a Master Degree in Business Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and has studied at the Renmin University of China for its PhD degree with focus on international relationship. Prof Sit has also studied at the Newcastle University of Australia for its Doctor degree of Business Administration and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School of its General Management Programme.

Professor Anthony Smith
Anthony Smith is UCL’s first Vice-Provost (Faculties). He chairs the University Management Committee and has responsibility for the Deans of UCL’s eleven faculties and Pro-Provost (UCL East).
Prior to the appointment to his current role in 2021, Professor Smith served as Vice-Provost (Education and Student Affairs) for nine years, taking the strategic lead for all matters related to education and the wider student experience. Before joining UCL, he was Principal and Dean of the School of Pharmacy, University of London. He was educated at the University of Bath where he obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy and PhD degrees.
He is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. He is Chair of Trustees at UCL Academy and a Governor of the Capital City Colleges Group. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Ms. Susannah Morley
Susannah has been Director of the British Council in Hong Kong since August 2022, leading the British Council’s cultural relations operations across the Arts, Education and English.
Before being appointed to her current role, Susannah was Director Partnerships North-East Asia, leading and supporting partnership pursuits, planning and coordination with corporates, foundations and philanthropic institutions for Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
Previously Susannah was Director Programmes and Partnerships in Hong Kong for three years where she was responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of the arts and education & society programmes and for developing strategic partnerships. She also created and oversaw the delivery of SPARK: The Science and Art of Creativity, the British Council’s first festival of ideas.
Before joining the British Council in 2014, Susannah spent more than ten years’ working in the higher education sector where she held a variety of senior administrative posts, focused on developing university-industry collaborations, managing key stakeholder relationships, and measuring research impact, at the Universities of Cambridge and Essex in the UK, and the University of Melbourne in Australia.
Susannah is a returnee to both Hong Kong and the British Council. In the 1990s she worked for the British Council Education Counselling Service and on a series of major cultural events to mark the transfer of Hong Kong’s sovereignty to China.
Susannah originally trained as a book editor at the London College of Communication and worked in the publishing industry in London. She has a BA (Hons) in History and a Master’s degree in PR and Communications. She is married with two children.

Professor Stefano Tasselli
Stefano Tasselli is a Professor of Management at the University of Exeter Business School, where he is the Director of the Exeter Centre for Social Networks, and is a faculty member at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, where he was the Director of the Erasmus Centre for Innovation and of the Master in Management of Innovation. He is the President of the Social Networks Society. He received his PhD from the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge. He specialized his education with an executive program at the Harvard Business School. His previous professional experience includes consulting in McKinsey and Company. He has research and teaching experience, among the other institutions, at the University of Cambridge, Bocconi University, University of Italian Switzerland in Lugano, and at the Rennes School of Business. His research and teaching focus is on the interplay between psychological and relational antecedents of organizational functioning, including the analysis of the micro-foundations of organizational social networks; social networks, leadership and innovation; and organizational theory.
Professor Tasselli received distinguished recognitions. He was Knighted by the President of Italy for his professional and scientific contributions. He was selected by Poets and Quants as one of the '40 World's Best Business Professors under 40' and by ASFOR as the 'Best Italian Business Professor under 40.' He has been named by RSM News as 'one of the best business professors in the world.' In 2023, he has been selected by Thinkers50 as one of the World’s Top 30 Business Thinkers to watch. In 2023, he also received the ‘Outstanding Leadership Award’ by the Social Networks Society at the Academy of Management Meeting in Boston.

Professor Seen-Meng Chew
Professor Seen-Meng Chew is an Associate Professor of Practice in Finance and the Associate Dean for International Relations at CUHK Business School. Before joining CUHK in 2018, he worked as an economist at J.P. Morgan in Hong Kong, and at the Singapore offices of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Morgan Stanley. Prior to returning to Asia, he was a consultant at NERA Economic Consulting in Chicago. He currently serves as an executive committee member of the Asia Pacific Structured Finance Association (APSA). Prof. Chew received his economics degrees from the University of Chicago (PhD), Cambridge University (MPhil), and the London School of Economics (BSc).

Dr. Hong FUNG, JP
Dr. Hong FUNG is the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the CUHK Medical Centre (CUHKMC). CUHKMC is the private teaching hospital wholly owned by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
Dr. FUNG is also Professor of Practice in Health Services Management at the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, CUHK, where he teaches healthcare innovation and technology management, healthcare financing, and communications and marketing in the School’s master and leadership programs.

Professor Gillian Choa
Professor Gillian Choa, a passionate educator, became the first woman, and the first Hongkonger, to head The Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts when she stepped up to the role of the organisation’s Director in 2021. She joined the Academy full time as a member of its Theatre Design Department in 1996 and was appointed Dean of the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts from 2013 to 2019, and Deputy Director and Provost from 2019 before her appointment as Director. Under her leadership, the Academy has been ranked 1st in Asia for four consecutive years and top 13 globally for 5 years in a row at the latest QS Ranking – performing arts category.
Choa has also worked in numerous different roles within the arts. She began her career in Hong Kong as the first Resident Designer of the Chung Ying Theatre Company, then worked in a wide variety of roles across Hong Kong’s performance and entertainment industry, including as set, costume and lighting designer for theatre, film and television. She has designed displays for luxury brands including Tiffany and Hermès, presented a classical music TV programme, and edited architectural and fashion magazines.
Choa has currently been serving many boards and committees of organisations and advisory groups that include Human Resources Planning Commission , HKSAR Outstanding Students’ Union, HKJC Music and Dance Fund, HK Society for the Deaf, Federation of New Territories Youth, HK Youth & Tertiary Students Association, VTC’s Design Discipline Advisory Board, HK Designers Association, Wofoo Leaders’ Network, Zonta Club of Hong Kong, and so forth.

Dr. Florian M Spiegl
Florian Spiegl is a seasoned innovator and entrepreneur at the nexus of private capital markets and fintech.
He is the Founder & CEO of EVIDENT Group, a fast-growing, fully licensed platform revolutionizing alternative asset investment through blockchain-based tokenization. His mission is to unlock unprecedented access to purpose-driven assets for more investors, redefining industry standards in scalability and regulatory compliance.
In the past, Florian served as CEO and board member of Hunter Technology Corp, a publicly listed commodities trading technology company, and earlier co-founded FinFabrik, a Hong Kong-based blockchain solutions startup that was acquired in 2020.
His fintech activities are grounded in traditional capital markets experience, through strategy consulting with the Boston Consulting Group and roles in global wealth and asset management, spanning financial hubs including New York, Zurich, London, and Singapore.
Championing the positive impact of capital, Florian invests in and advises innovative, purpose-driven ventures. He is also a co-founder of the Hong Kong FinTech Association, teaching the FinTech MBA course at Hong Kong University, and has served on the FinTech Advisory Board of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong.
Florian holds a PhD and studied Economics and Political Science in Vienna.

Dr. Calvin Mak
Dr. Calvin Mak was awarded as the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in Hong Kong in 2022, Outstanding Team Award in 2021 and Young Achiever Award in 2020 of the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong. He currently serves on several boards and advisory committees of the HKSAR, including the Youth Development Commission, Social Security Appeal Board and Municipal Services Appeals Board. He is appointed as the Court Member as well as the curriculum advisor of MSc (Health Informatics) of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and is also the current president of La Salle College Old Boys’ Association.
He is a Consultant neurosurgeon at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Hong Kong, and is appointed as Clinical Associate Professor (Honorary) of the Department of Surgery in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong, and obtained his fellowship of FRCSEd(SN). His main clinical interest is both endoscopic and complex skull base surgery. Dr. Mak performed the first endoscopic transorbital surgery for brain tumor in Hong Kong, and has organized dissection courses on endoscopic transorbital surgery. He has been invited as faculty and instructor for various international skull base courses and meetings. Apart from regular publications, he is co-editor of a multidisciplinary skull base textbook, author of book chapters, and serves as editor and reviewer for various journals. Dr. Mak currently serves as Honorary Secretary of Hong Kong Neurosurgical Society, First Vice-President of Hong Kong Neuro-oncology Society, Executive Board member of the Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons, delegates to Executive Committee of AASNS and WFNS, council member of the China Greater Bay Area Neurosurgical Alliance.
In addition, Dr. Mak pioneers in integrating innovative technology into medical services. He is the Cluster Coordinator of Information Technology and Information Systems of Kowloon Central Cluster (KCC), and chairman of the KCC Smart Hospital Management Committee. His team developed the first Hospital Command Centre in Hong Kong, which helped the hospitals combat the COVID-19 crisis, and pioneered the adoption of 5G technology in clinical application. He is also leading research projects on artificial intelligence application in brain imaging, clinical prediction, big data and GPT application in healthcare.

Mr. Carl Wu
Carl Wu is the Co-Founder and CEO of New Frontier Group.
Under his leadership, New Frontier has developed into a full lifecycle, patient-centric healthcare company in China, with operations ranging from general and specialty hospitals, primary and urgent care services, rehabilitation hospitals, home health care, health insurance solutions, and medical technology, servicing approximately 10 million patients annually across 78 cities in China.
Mr. Wu is currently the CEO of New Frontier Health / United Family Healthcare. He is also the Executive Chairman and Co-founder of YD Care, Heal Medical, NF Greater Bay Health Holding / Shenzhen Sanjiu Hospital, Better Health and Prosper Health, and the Chairman of Care Alliance.
Mr. Wu holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he graduated with First Class Honors. Prior to founding New Frontier, Mr. Wu was a Managing Director at Blackstone and executed some of Blackstone’s most important investments in China. He was a founding member of Blackstone Asia, and was instrumental in establishing Blackstone’s business in China.
Mr. Wu was acknowledged by Fortune as one of the “40 under 40” global business and political leaders in 2021.

Professor Cecilia Chun
Professor Cecilia CHUN is currently the Director of the Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She served as an associate dean of the Faculty of Education of CUHK. She has extensive experience in the education of school teachers of English in Hong Kong and in mainland China. She was involved in publicly funded research projects on language and language related topics. She served as members on different local and international consultancy projects and academic accreditation panels. She was a member of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) and Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications. She is currently on the Register of Auditors of the Quality Assurance Council of the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong (UGC) and a member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. She is also a convenor of an assessment panel for a competitive research funding scheme under the Research Grant Council of UGC.

Professor Savio Wong
Professor Savio WONG is an Associate Professor at the Department of Educational Psychology and Director of the Laboratory for Brain and Education (LABBE) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He received his Bachelor in Cognitive Science and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Hong Kong and postdoctoral training at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Southern California. He received Fulbright-RGC HK Senior Research Scholar Award and was appointed as Visiting Associate Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2018. Since 2019, he has been serving as the Co-Head of the Curriculum Development Team and Teacher Development and School Engagement Team of the CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project.

Ms. S. Alice Mong
Ms. S. Alice Mong is President of the Asia Society Hong Kong Center (ASHK), an independent non-governmental educational organisation established in 1990.
Prior to ASHK, Ms. Mong worked in New York for almost a decade in the non-profit sector in senior management positions. She was the Director of the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) from 2009 to 2011, overseeing the expansion project of the 30-year-old organization. She stepped down as Museum Director in July 2011 after successfully transforming the museum from a New York Chinatown institution into a leading national museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history, heritage, culture and diverse experiences of people of Chinese descent in the United States. Ms. Mong also served as the Executive Director for the Committee of 100 in the United States, a Chinese-American non-profit membership organisation founded by architect I.M. Pei and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. She began her career at the Ohio Department of Development in Ohio, and later became Managing Director of the Ohio Office of East and Southeast Asia in Hong Kong. Ms. Mong worked for Hang Lung Property Group from 1995 to 2002. She serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of The Ohio State University Alumni Association.

Dr. Flora Zeta Cheong-Leen
Flora Zeta Cheong-Leen is born in Hong Kong and was trained at Jean M. Wong School of Ballet from the age of five. At 11 years of age, she was the first Chinese to have been accepted into the Royal Ballet School, White Lodge, in London. Upon graduation from the Royal Ballet Senior School, she was selected to join the Royal Ballet Company at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
Flora won her first dance medal at the international Adeline Genee Competition, arranged by the Royal Academy of Dance in London, and a choreographic prize at Dame Ninette De Valois choreographic competition. Another choreographic award was given to her by Sir Frederick Ashton. Having trained choreography under Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Flora also won the Royal Ballet Senior Choreographic Competition. Following her remarkable achievements, Flora was chosen to train with the Paris Opera Company for one year.
Returning to Hong Kong, Flora worked as a dancer and choreographer for the Hong Kong Ballet, as well as an actor and fashion designer. She was invited to become a member of the Board of Governors and Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Ballet, a member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Ballet Group and the vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Civic Association.
Flora is the Artistic Director and Choreographer of Techno Artists Production and concentrates her artistic endeavours in performing arts, films, costume and fashion designing. She founded Tian Art Fashion Design House in Hong Kong and London in 1991 and showcased her own design around the world.
Flora is actively involved in numerous charitable organisations through her Tian Art Foundation since 1999. She established her performing arts school, The Conservatory of International Style and Cultural Arts (CISCA) in Beijing in 2009, and found Ballet Octahedron (Wu Tian Yuan) in 2013.
Flora was awarded the Ten Most Outstanding Young Persons Award in 1990 in Hong Kong, The French Chamber of commerce Award of "Women of 21st Century" in 2000, China International Grand Master Fashion Designer Award in 2003 and The World Outstanding Chinese Business and Art Award in 2007 and received the Honorary Doctorate.

Ms. Sharon Tang
Sharon is a former senior reporter and TV News anchor for TVB Pearl’s prime time News At 7:30. She has done exclusives with Carrie Lam and John Lee, Henry Litton, as well as feature stories with the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Diocesan Boys’ and Girls’ School Choral Society. In 2018, Sharon has also received commendation from the Secretary for Home Affairs.
She started off as a radio host at a young age, and has extensive experience being a trilingual emcee and VO talent. She was the English voice-over for a Hello Hong Kong! Campaign video, and has presented and moderated for numerous mega events such as HKSAR's celebration banquet for Higher Education anniversary, Jockey Club, May Fourth Flag-raising ceremony, HKBU anniversaries, Hong Kong Special Olympics etc.

Ms. Zabrina Lo
Zabrina Lo is the features editor at Tatler Hong Kong, specialising in arts and culture. She won gold at the WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards for her 2021 feature on the waves of hate crimes targeting Asian Americans. She has interviewed A-list artists and filmmakers, including Oscar winners Chlóe Zhao and Tim Yip, Golden Horse winner Syvlia Chang and Ann Hui, New York Film Critics Circle Award winner Christopher Doyle, French painter Françoise Gilot, and Pachinko author Min Jin Lee. She also covers social issues such as LGBTQ+ rights in Asia.
She is the founding president of the Hong Kong Arts Festival's Young Friends Alumni Association, which brings together more than five decades of the festival's alumni and promotes arts education and development in Hong Kong.
Zabrina earned a master's in English at University College London. Her award-winning poems and short stories have been published by Oxford Magazine, Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, Voice and Verse, among others.
