The London Ball Foundation hosted the Education Summit 2026 and London Ball 2026 this month, reaffirming its mission to support future generations, strengthen international educational ties, and contribute to the city’s long term development.
London Ball
London Ball 2026 was held on 25 April at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Ballroom as the Foundation’s signature charitable gala, bringing together nearly 500 elite alumni from around the world, leaders from higher education and industry, and supporters of youth‑focused initiatives in Hong Kong.
In attendance at the London Ball were honourable keynote speakers and distinguished guests, including Mr Chris Tang, Secretary for Security of the HKSAR Government; Mr Victor Chu, Chair of the Council of University College London; Dr Michael Spence, President and Provost of University College London.
Professor Sandy Lau, Co-Founder and Chairlady of the London Ball Foundation said “I founded the London Ball Foundation to better serve our city and our country, China, by connecting all the incredible talents, through youth development initiatives and education advancement.”
Mr Chris Tang said “Hong Kong is a place that welcomes talents from around the world” and referenced his own experience of studying at King’s College London. Mr Tang commended Professor Lau and the London Ball Foundation for their dedication to building connections with fellow graduates from overseas universities, nurturing talent, and investing in youth development in Hong Kong.
Dr Michael Spence reflected that the Chinese word for “Global” 全球 seemed a helpful way to describe how universities should aim to understand the world, by applying the expertise of different disciplines to bear on common challenges. Dr Spence also reiterated that intercultural understanding and a willingness to act as a connector is essential in the world we live in.
In 2025, London Ball’s My Dream program helped over 10,000 students in Hong Kong learn about the UN Sustainable Development Goals. One My Dream Programme winner, Alpha Tse, performed for guests at the event.
Celebrity supporters at the event included Myolie Wu, Aimee Chan, Irene Wang, Lokyi Lai, Ruco Chan, Karl Ting, Desmond Yu and Vincent Tang as MC.
Education Summit 2026
The Education Summit 2026, co‑hosted with the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong, was held on 19 April 2026 at HKU, under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Cross‑Cultural Intelligence.”
Welcoming remarks at the Education Summit were delivered by Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice‑Chancellor of HKU, and Professor Sandy Lau, Co-Founder and Chairlady of London Ball Foundation. Dr Jeff Sze, Under Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, addressed the audience and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to developing Hong Kong as an international hub for post‑secondary education, research and innovation. Dr Michael Spence, President and Provost of UCL, underscored the responsibility of universities to nurture students’ ability to listen attentively and respect diversity, as crucial qualities in the age of AI. The Summit was co-chaired by Professor Sandy Lau and Mr Benjamin Meunier.
Discussions throughout the Summit examined the implications of artificial intelligence for teaching, learning and research. In front of an audience of nearly 500 participants, speakers emphasised that while AI is reshaping educational practice, human values, ethical reasoning and cultural literacy remain central to talent development and responsible innovation.
